A second trailer forFantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledorewas released this week, and I just have to heave a big ole sigh. There’s thewasted potential, and then there is how GOOD the Dumbledore half of this movie looks and how annoying it is we can’t just enjoy this anymore because JK Rowling has made it all so unpleasant. Jude Law as young Dumbledore remains GREAT casting, and while Mads Mikkelsen doesn’t look particularly engaged as Grindelwald, he is an improvement on Johnny Depp, who went in a more cartoonish direction. Mikkelsen’s Grindelwald looks and feels like he actually belongs in the same world as this dapper, relatively grounded take on Dumbledore. Also, no Katherine Waterston?! I checked IMDB, and she is listed in the cast, but Tina Goldstein is absent from this trailer (although checking Waterston’s IMDB is how I just learned there is a second season ofPerry Masoncoming).

可怜的艾迪·雷德梅恩,不过,事后在嗨s own franchise. I know he’s not everyone’s cup of tea as a performer, but I maintain his brand of theatrically is well suited to this type of movie. It’s just a shame his sweet magical zookeeper is shoved in with all these fashy wizards. The concept of “Fantastic Beasts” should be its own thing, separate from what’s going on with young Dumbledore, but it’s too late for all that. This is where we are. AndSecretslooks pretty messy, even in trailer form. It looks like Redmayne is trying to angle his performance in a way that blends in better with the ensemble around him, but he just sticks out like a sore thumb. The minute the wacky little animals pop up, it’s all over. They just don’t belong in the wizard world war, never mind when Ezra Miller shows up looking like a Snape prototype. And if any of those adorable critters die…
