Christopher Nolan’s next film,Oppenheimer, is currently filming in Los Angeles. Cillian Murphy and his near-translucent stare rings the bell for some of y’all, so here he is on set yesterday, along with Matt Damon and Dane DeHaan in period World War II-era garb. To refresh, this movie stars half of Hollywood, and Matt Damon is playing Leslie Groves, head of the Manhattan Project, while Cillian Murphy is playing J. Robert Oppenheimer, head of the Los Alamos Laboratory and “father of the atomic bomb”. Dane DeHaan’s character is unconfirmed, but obviously is a soldier. Not pictured here is Robert Downey, Jr.,who plays Lewis Strauss, Oppenheimer’s political rival who is more or less the villain of the piece.

Murphy is a frequent collaborator with Nolan, but this is the first time he’s been the lead in one of Nolan’s films. He’s usually a villain (the Batman movies), or in the ensemble (我nception, Dunkirk), but he’s finally having his moment. It’s a big year for Murphy all around.Peaky Blinders, his 1920s-era English gangster drama, iscoming back for a sixth and final seasonon Netflix on June 10, and they’re set to make a feature film follow-up due next year. (Peaky Blinderswent six seasons and a movie!) For those of you who enjoy ole spooky eyes, you’re in for a lot of Cillian content over the next twelve months.
