White was probably the most popular colour on the carpet at the Emmys last night. Oprah wore white, as did Selena Gomez, and Jean Smart, who won her second Emmy in a row for her performance inHacks, was glorious in white.
The mood here is golden age Hollywood. Once again Jean is in Christian Siriano – she also wore Christian Siriano at the SAG Awards back in February and at the time Tom and Lorenzo said it as thebest dress she’s ever worn. This one might challenge that. It’s giving vintage and modern, timeless but also trendy. Fabulous is a word I use sparingly…but it really, really fits here.
Kerry Washington also showed up in white and there are some bold styling decisions happening here. The dress is Elie Saab with all kinds of dimension coming off the floral appliqué wrapped around one shoulder and also at the hip. The florals are already a lot, but then there’s more going on with the ruching and the train and somehow it all works …and we haven’t even gotten to the sheer tights.
This is a Law Roach production and you know with Law, it’s never going to be basic. And Elie Saab is, sometimes, kinda basic. Which is why I think the tights are happening here. Without the tights, the look is pretty bridal. With the tights, we’re getting more of a party vibe, and I love it.
But it wasn’t just the women serving white looks – Jerrod Carmichael won the Emmy for Outstanding Writing For A Variety Special and he went vintage. Jerrod told reporters that this white fur coat is from a Puff Daddy music video. And, well, if we’re bringing the hip-hop vibes then there’s no point in wearing a shirt. I’m not mad at it. The Emmys carpet doesn’t have a lot of sexy rock’n’roll energy and Jerrod just brought it.

Speaking of sexy though…
You know whose sex appeal surprised me? Seth Rogen! I am very, very attracted to blonde Seth Rogen who looks really, really good in a white tux.
And what is it about Andrew Garfield these days? Have always liked him as an actor but over the last year or so, the liking has turned into crushing. It’s the tan, I think. Andrew’s taking a break, he’s at the beach a lot, he’s in chill mode – and the rest is working for him. Rest mode also applies to the fashion because the open collar only adds to the relaxed swagger. Anyone else have a case of the Andrew thirst?

Finally, Nicholas Braun – also went without a tie like Andrew but more formal with the shirt buttoned all the way up and embellishment on the collar, a nice touch.
