For one split second I thought someone was having fun at the Met Gala, dressing up in a full-blown costume as Karl Lagerfeld’s famous cat, Choupette. Was someone gate crashing? Was this an unusual moment of levity at the Met Gala? Did Anna Wintour hobnobbing with Pete Davidson finally rub off in the form of a sense of humor?
Alas, no. It was just Jared Leto stunting, as he is wont to do. I should have known, I suppose, but for one moment I was living in the belief that a furry crashed the Met Gala. He quickly changed into a caped ensemble that I assume is Gucci.

It’s the combination of Chanel tweed and Versace pearl safety pins, it’s the separated sleeves, it’s the necklace and the vaguely mod hair and makeup. She looks incredible, and I really, really love the combination of signature elements from both Chanel and Versace.
But Jared Leto wasn’t the only cat-person of the night. Doja Cat dressed as either her own namesake or Choupette or both, wearing a sparkling gown with a built-in hood complete with cat ears, and she wore face prosthetics to give herself an actual cat face.
It’s so good, she looks like the queen of an intergalactic humanoid cat people, like is she queen of the planet that spawned Benedict Cumberbatch? In the battle of the cat people, Doja wins because her look was an all-night commitment. Leto should have committed to the furry suit.
