Last night was the second annual “Albies”, a humanitarian award given by the Clooney Foundation for Justice to “those whose work and organizations are under threat” (you can read more about The Albies and this year’s recipientshere). That means that Amal and George Clooney were out last night in New York, where The Albies were hosted at the New York Public Library (feels strategic, having this event in a public library at this moment in American history).
George and Amal were joined by a lot of their friends, including Matt Damon and Luciana Barroso Damon, John Krasinski and Emily Blunt, Donatella Versace—Amal wore Versace to the event—and Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber. There were also a lot of other celebrities present, including Viola Davis and Julius Tennon, Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach, DANIEL CRAIG AND RACHEL WEISZ, Jon Stewart, John Oliver, Julianne Moore, Andra Day, Nina Dobrev and Shaun White, Anne Hathaway, Mary J. Blige, Michaela Jae Rodriguez, Julianna Margulies, Jodie Turner-Smith—once again flying solo, NOT WORRIED—Scarlett Johansson, Colman Domingo, Jeremy Strong…just a lot of people, in general. Kind of feels like every New York celeb turned out.
On a purely fashion note, Heidi Klum wore a dress I don’t hate for once, and Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz look F-CKING SPECTACULAR. All these celebrity couples showed up and Rachel and Dan roll in like, why even bother? Literally the only couple even close to their combined level of glamour are George and Amal themselves. Also, Greta Gerwig’s dress is AMAZING.
I am sort of wondering if everyone turned up in a higher fashion degree than average for a non-industry event because the actors are still on strike and they’re not sure when they’ll be back on red carpets for premieres and awards shows, so they’re donning some garments previously tagged for more “central” events. Greta’s dress, in particular, feels like something her stylist flagged for a “nominee” night, you know? Worst case scenario, the actors’ strike drags on so long the 2024 awards shows are cancelled, in which case, this could be the closest we get to Oscars fashion.
