The weirdest of the Marvel TV shows, by far, isWandaVision. It’s weird mainly because Vision is dead, yet Paul Bettany is returning, and also it’s set post-Endgame.There’s a lot of “huh?” and “how?” surrounding this show. The key is that Scarlet Witch’s powers are bonkers and the movies have barely scratched the surface of what she can do. Mostly we’ve seen her increasing physical powers, but Scarlet Witch can affect reality itself, and it sounds likeWandaVisionis going to lean into that aspect of her power. It sounds like Wanda is about to make things REAL WEIRD, becauseWandaVisionis going to tie directly intoDoctor Strange 2, and Elizabeth Olsen will be co-starring in that movie.
It’s officially titledDoctor Strangein theMultiverse of Madness, which is a hella long title, and it also confirms Marvel will be going multi-dimensional (as of 2021). During their portion of the Marvel panel, director Scott Derrickson said this would be Marvel’s “first horror movie” (LOL sorry,New Mutants), though Benedict Cumberbatch was quick to add that the comedy from the first movie will still be present…? While there were a couple good gags with the cloak, I don’t think anyone is checking Doctor Strange for comedy. I am way more interested in a Doctor Strange movie as a horror film.
I’m also interested to see how Strange and Wanda interact. They are two of the most powerful characters in the MCU, but one is all about discipline while the other barely seems to understand her own abilities. It should be interesting to see their dynamic and how they play off one another (If they end up doing thebody swapI will be SO MAD). In the last few years, Marvel has found success with the mini-cross-over; think Thor and HulkThor: Ragnarokor Nick Fury and Carol Danvers inCaptain Marvel.Strange and Wanda are the newest duo to team up, and while it makes me sad we will never get Tony and Stephen, the “awesome facial hair bros”, as an on-going yet reluctant partnership, I am curious to see how Wanda and Strange get along. Especially since those two could create the conditions for the next Avengers cross-over event.
