Dear Gossips,

Celine Dion kicked off herCourageworld tour a couple of weeks ago in Quebec City. Her next stop was supposed to be in Montreal but she’s postponed the shows because of a throat virus and released an apology video to fans explaining that she hasn’t gotten better in time. The Montreal dates have now been rescheduled to February.

New tour dates were announced last week and tickets for some of those stops go on sale this morning. They’re expected to sell quickly. I was panicked about getting my tickets for her Toronto show in December and anticipating that experience is one of the best things in my life right now. I’ve NEVER seen her perform live in concert. I don’t know how I’m going to recover from the…extra-ness of it all.

Because Celine is EXTRA. This is an understatement, lol. She would even say it’s an understatement. As she told the LA Times in a new interviewpublished this week:

“I love the spotlight — I love to be looked at. I’m in show business. You show your butt or your back or your shoulder and you go, ‘Voulez-vous coucher avec moi.’”

Iconic!

You know what an icon does? She leans into her mythology. When asked about “My Heart Will Go On” and how she was initially resistant to recording it (even David Foster admits he was wrong when he劝她不要这么做) until RC encouraged her, she confirms that the version of the song that everyone can sing from memory was the original, her first crack at it. As she puts it,“If I’m going to do a demo, I’m going to sell the sh-t”.

Apparently when Celine swears though, she whispers. And I don’t think it’s because she’s modest – rather, I think it’s because she’s giving the curse MORE DRAMA.

Here’s what Celine’s doing that many artists, though they might be younger and edgier in terms of where they’re taking their music, haven’t been able to figure out yet – she’s like what they say in the movie business, a “four quadrant” feature, meaning she appeals now to ALL demographics, and not just our parents. Her audience,as the LA Times points out, is grandparents, and parents, and aunts and uncles and millennials and Gen X, all cultures, all genders… everyone. This is her analogy about her fanbase:

“For me, I’m very impressed about that. I always thought my crowd was going to mature with me, and then it would fade a little bit. But what happened? I planted cucumbers in my garden, and now I have cucumbers, tomatoes, lettuce, radish.”

WE ARE HER GARDEN!!!

Have a great weekend!

Yours in gossip,
