Dear Gossips,

Have you noticed lately how many 20th anniversary movie celebrations there have been this year? And it’s only the end of March.Jawbreakercame out in January 1999. I posted aboutShe’s All Thata few weeks ago. I linked to a piece onCruel Intentionsin What Elsethe other day. We’ll talk aboutNotting Hillin May. We’ll get to要迷死人的in July. Next month it’ll be time forNever Been Kissed.

1999 was a GREAT year for romantic comedies. (Electionisn’t really a rom-com but that came out in 1999 too.) And this Sunday, March 31 marks the 20th anniversary of maybe the best of that class:10 Things I Hate About You. Not only because that was when we all fell in love with Heath Ledger but also because of the way Julia Stiles’s voice broke when she reads her poem, after Mr Morgan rolls his eyes when she volunteers to go first. These are the small details about that movie – and there are SO many of them that reveal themselves during repeat viewings – that will never get old for me. Watch it, right now. Even though you’ve already seen it too many times, don’t tell me it still doesn’t get you.

Teen movies are often not taken seriously. And, sure, sometimes those critics are right – as right as they are about NON teen movies that are sh-t too. That’s what makes me crazy about culture snobs, whether it’s books or music or movies, who dismiss an entire genre based only on the fact that it’s ostensibly just for youth, as if “adult” art can’t be bad too. But10 Things I Hate About Youcan’t be denied, it does so much without trying too hard, and those who can’t see it are really missing out.

What are you watching on Sunday? Or tonight. Or tomorrow?

Have a great weekend!

Yours in gossip,
