One of the sidebar conversations ahead of the Oscar nominations today was whether or notSpider-Man: No Way Homewould make the cut, particularly in the Best Picture category. The movie did receive one nomination for special effects, but they put a significant budget into getting a nomination in the biggest category after all its box office records, pretty much being the brightest light for movie theatre viability, and the fact that it was critically embraced. Given the effort behind that campaign,some are calling Spider-Man’s exclusion a snub。也就是说,你真的相信No Way Homewould be a contender? It would have been a nice surprise, for sure, but I don’t know that I could see it happening.
So now Tom Holland is onto the next. The press tour forUnchartedhas arrived in Spain which is where we find Tom, director Ruben Fleischer, and 61-year-old Antonio Banderas who should also be a member of that Rob Lowe and Paul Rudd ageless list.

SPOILER ALERT….
Do we still need spoilers? The movie has been out for almost two months – I haven’t seen it because I don’t leave my house (although I’m considering going back into the world maybe this week specifically for this film) but I have long known that… SPOILER ALERT AGAIN…
Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield show up. And all of them haven’t stopped discussing this. Here’s what Tom had to say:
“I said to [Maguire and Garfield], ‘Thank you, thank you, thank you for doing this. Thank you for being here. Thank you for elevating Spider-Man in the ways that you have. Thank you for being so gracious and allowing me to share this with you. Thank you for taking a leap of faith and coming back.’ Tobey hadn’t acted in nearly 10 years, so we all embraced each other, and we were all crying because it meant so much to us. And Jon Watts, Amy Pascal and the writers saw this moment between the three of us and were like, ‘Brilliant! Well, now we know how they’re going to say goodbye to each other.’ So essentially, we just reshot that very real moment between the three of us.”
And then he shared one his regrets which I think is really sweet, a really good look on him:
“Something I can look back on now with a little bit of clarity and regret is that I never called [Garfield] when I took over as Spider-Man,” Holland admits. “Had someone said to me after my second movie that I was done and this other kid was taking over, I would’ve been heartbroken. So looking back, I wish I had the chance to make amends with him, but this film was our opportunity. It was not only an opportunity for him to make peace with the character and the studio, but it was also an opportunity for me and him to have this moment where we realize we could share this thing. The look on his face when he saves Zendaya [MJ] is totally genuine, and I’m really proud of him.”
One thing can help the other. As Sarah wrotea few weeks agoaboutUncharted,it’s an opportunity to see whether or not Tom Holland can carry his Peter Parker popularity into another unrelated franchise. And absolutely his name and face recognition from Spider-Man will be a factor for people who don’t know whatUnchartedis and might be convinced to see it – that, after all, is the power of the Movie Star, if movie stars even have any power left. Very interested to see howUnchartedis received.
