Let’s start at the beginning of the episode though because, as promised, on this episode, we begin by unpackingthe Constance Wu situationstarting from the baseline: the way she reacted on social media to the news thatFresh Off The Boathad been RENEWED – not cancelled but renewed – was not good work, not a good look, and especially surprising from someone who has done such great work.
So where did this come from? What other options were available to her? Were ALL the options available? And what are her options now? Does this follow her and can she get rid of the stink? If so… what is the play?
From there we move to Charlize Theron and a comment that delighted Duana. While promotingLong Shota couple of weeks ago, Charlizetold the Press Association that:
“I just wanted to make sure that we all agreed that we wanted to make a film that would have two characters that felt modern and felt at times conflicted and that we would focus on a relationship that felt real. I struggle with that sometimes in romantic comedies, I feel like I'm the only loser who has never experienced the third act of most romantic comedies and it just makes me feel very bitter, and so I just wanted to feel like I could bring something to the table.”

Charlize Theron can and has done a lot in front of the camera. Her skill gap though? Her skill gap is the third act in a romantic comedy. How do you work on something for your work that you can’t possibly train for?
And finally…
Three weeks ago today, Olivia Munn tried to call out the Fug Girls, Heather Cocks and Jessica Morgan.Heather and Jessica kept working. We wanted to know what it was like for Heather and Jessica that day, how they managed the heat, how they worked through the situation, how they worked TOGETHER to get through the situation, and beyond that, because Olivia Munn was just one day in almost 15 years worth of days, what it is about their partnership that has made GFY a beloved, respected, and essential online institution.
This is about the work of bloggers, about how blogging has evolved, and we are so grateful to Heather and Jessica for being so generous with their time and thoughtful in their answers. Blogging in 2019 is not what it was in 2004, when so many of us first started, when we were a part of a growing industry, growing into ourselves, and growing with the business. The Fug Girls are candid about their mistakes, about how they’ve changed, and about what it’s meant to them that their readers have understood them, supported them, and also changed with them. They’ve given us one of our favourite episodes….
