It has been a MINUTE since we’ve posted about Mariah Carey, our Elusive Butterfly Chanteuse, the Mimi of our wildest rainbow and animal print dreams.

She was in New York last night, the headlining artist inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, and as she said while accepting the honour:

“I read that out of the 439 total inductees into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, only 32 have been women, until now.”

Questlove, who introduced her, elaborated on that point – noting that Mimi is criminally underappreciated for her songwriting skills. She wrote the most famous Christmas song of the modern era, a song for eternity, which is a feat allllll songwriters aspire to, even if they deny it. And based on that alone, she’d be deserving, but of course, there are so many more songs. Mimi’s catalogue includes 19 – NINETEEN - #1 hits, only The Beatles have more, and of those 19, she wrote 18 of them! Come on now!

So anyway, Mimi should be feeling herself, she’s been feeling herself a lot longer than many have allowed her to feel, and last night she went out for dinner to celebrate in a dress that is 100% Mimi – a full-length slip dress, black on top and bleeding into leopard through the bottom. It’s a look I hope we see on her well into her 70s and 80s and beyond.
