I’m in no rush for the weekend to go by any faster… but I am also very much looking forward to Sunday. It’s the season finale ofSuccession, and after what happened on the penultimate episode of this season, well, I think we all want to know how the Roys are going to manage this crisis.
And then, on the track, it’s the final race of the 2021 F1 season in Abu Dhabi with everything on the line, and I mean everything. Mercedes has a lead on Red Bull in the Constructors but it’s still very possible for Red Bull to come out with that title and the Drivers Championship…WHICH IS TIED.
Like the big winner here, really, is the sport itself. It’s already more popular than it’s been maybe ever, over the last year or so sinceDrive to Survivebecame such a big hit on Netflix, bringing in millions of new fans around the world who are suddenly making it a point to watch on race weekends – which is my household. Ever since Jacek and I started watching the series at the beginning of this year, we’ve been obsessed with F1, with the personalities, with the petty ass drama, and the rivalries, and this rivalry between Lewis and Max has been one for the ages.
All season they’ve been sniping at each other. All season there have been crashes and controversial moments, including what happened last weekend in Saudi Arabia when Max brake-checked Lewis and was subsequently penalised for it. Which brings us to this weekend, as they go in equal on points for the final race. You couldn’t script this any better.
If you were writing the script, of course you’d make it so that it came down to the final lap, and it’s quite probable, given how this season has unfolded, and depending on who you’re rooting for, that person would finish first. Personally, I’m not a fan of Max Verstappen – and that’s not helped by the fact that he’s opting out of the next season ofDrive to Survive, which is based on this season on the track, after having a suck attack and complaining that the show manufactures rivalries. Um, I’m not really sure what there is to manufacture when we’ve seen it all on the track. That said, the people I root for never win, so if you’re pro-Max Verstappen, that might be good news to for you.
While it remains to be seen who will emerge the victor this weekend, here’s where Lewis always wins: fashion! Yesterday he was seen in two colours, orange on orange and purple on purple. I’m guessing he prefers his purple fit because that’s the one he posted on Instagram:
I prefer it too, just because the details are so good. The intarsia on his sweater is amazing. The purple cargo pants with the black patch are amazing. The purple lug sole on his shoes is amazing. And after this weekend, we won’t get these regularly scheduled weekend fashion shows until March. Appreciate it while you can.
