Last night at around 8pm Eastern Standard Time, Jordan Peele revealed the poster for his new film.

The tagline says, “A new nightmare from the mind of Academy Award Winner Jordan Peele.” It took all of my strength to get my ass to the theatre to watchGet Outbecause I hate horror movies and I spent half of the movie with my face buried in my friend Brian’s shoulder. It was incredible. No regrets. I don’t want to have to keep watching horror movies but I will watch anything from the brilliant mind of Academy Award WinnerJordan Peele. Why does he have to keep making nightmares though? Can’t it just be a nice, light daydream? I’m already terrified.

Us2019年3月15日,已经有一个发布日期- - - - - - - - - - - -但是the cast is not yet finalized. The Hollywood Reporterrevealed thatLupita Nyong’ois in late stage negotiations to star in the film and thatWinston DukeandElisabeth Mossare in early talks. YES Winston Duke! I want M’Baku to star in all the things! It’s not unusual to hear about a film before the entire cast has signed on but it is weird to have a full release date and movie poster without one.
Here’s what we know so far about the plot:

Details are being kept deep in suburbia, but the pic is said to center on two couples, one white, one black. If a deal is made, Duke and Nyong’o would play one couple, while Moss would play part of the other couple.

This description makes it seem like this new film, likeGet Out, will tackle race. This descript puts an emphasis on the two couples being of different backgrounds but Jordan Peele said otherwise in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in February.

“One thing I know is that this is genre; and playing around with the thriller, horror, action, fun genre of intrigue is my favorite. That’s my sweet spot. So I think tonally it should resemble Get Out. That said, I want to make a completely different movie. I want to address something different than race in the next one.”

Jordan Peele also addressed the fact that there is a lot riding on this new film. It’s the follow-up toGet Out, a cultural phenomenon that won him his first Oscar. I can’t imagine the pressure that comes with that but so far,Ussounds like it might just live up to its inevitable hype.

As for whether or notUswill be a subversive commentary on race in America like Get Out was, if we’re going with what Peele says above, it might not. He also might just be trying to keep the mystery alive. Based on the poster alone, there have already been some overly analytical hot takes online but this one seems like it has the most promise.

There’s also unevenness between the two silhouettes. One face is more distorted than the other. The title “Us” and the casting of two couples could mean delving deep into what relationships reveal about ourselves or the different lenses from which couples of different races look at the world… I am just pulling sh-t out of my ass at this point. WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO TELL US, JORDAN?

I can’t remember the last time I was this excited about a director’s sophomore drop. A March release date usually isn’t indicative of an Oscar hopeful but Jordan Peele already beat the odds withGet Out.Jordan Peele, Best Director 2020?
