It’s been a little over a year since acclaimed actress Helen McCrory died of breast cancer at 52. She and Damian Lewis were married for 14 years and have two children. The loss is unimaginable, no one ever expects to not have enough time and to have to figure out what life will be after you say goodbye to your life partner.

I’ve been married 20 years, and I’m a petty person. I used to think that should anything happen to me, I’d come back and haunt my husband if he fell in love with someone within five years of my departure. But over the last few years, and especially over the last two years, I’ve realised that loneliness is also a cruel disease. Why would I want to wish this cruelty on my favourite person? Why would I want him to not have anyone to talk to and walk with, not have anyone to be peacefully quiet with, not have anyone to share with – I’m actually uncomfortably close to crying just picturing it, so let me just go back to petty for a minute to clarify that if Jacek was out here proposing to someone two weeks later I would 100% curse him with my wandering spirit, because that would mean there was overlap. But beyond anything obviously suspect, if someone comes into his life who can lessen the pain and make him happy… of course, why wouldn’t I want that?

With that in mind, it’s now confirmed that Damian is dating musician Alison Mosshart. He looked good when I saw him during cutaways last week at Silverstone and presumably one of the reasons for that is that he’s found companionship again. He and Alison are now at the point where they’re showing up to public events together. At the end of June they attended the National Gallery fundraiser and last night they posed together at another party. After what must have been a bleak f-cking summer in 2021, Damian’s obviously enjoying a much lighter one. It’s wonderful to see.
