Dear Gossips,
On Sunday night, Sarah and I were supposed to meet up at the Fox Searchlight TIFF party for a few cocktails to unwind after a stupid busy weekend. I was covering Sienna Miller’sAmerican Womancarpet just before and wrapped just after 9pm. But then Sarah texted, she was fried, so she bailed, and I went there on my own. To see Melissa McCarthy hanging out with Sissy Spacek on the couch and Taika Waititi talking to Michael Shannon on the smoking patio, and Sebastian Stan being gorgeous, and Taika dancing, and Michael wandering around sampling from the food stations. “FML” is how Sarah responded when I told her what she was missing.
And then, last night, it happened to me and Duana. Duana, Kathleen, and I had planned to go to the Childish Gambino show in Toronto. Duana backed out a couple of days ago because of a scheduling conflict. I had an extra red carpet assignment added to my schedule for etalk in the afternoon, in addition to the night carpet I was already booked for, and got behind on some homework. So we both bailed, which sucks for us because Kathleen was sending us real-time texts from the show to tell us that at one point, Donald Glover, the Childish Gambino, ended up in our aisle, shirtless, and HUGGED HER. As for my homework…
The Joy Luck Clubpremiered at TIFF at the Elgin Theatre 25 years ago in 1993. To celebrate the anniversary, the film will screen once again at the Elgin this Thursday, September 13, followed by a Q&A with director Wayne Wang and a few of the film’s stars. When the event was first announced, Wayne said in a statement that:
”25周年之际,我很高兴to be able present a newly refined digital version of The Joy Luck Club at the Toronto International Film Festival. It’s going to be so special to look back on the film with the cast and original fans and to introduce the film to a new generation.”
