It’s been 11 years, right? That Carrie Underwood andBrad Paisleyhave hosted the Country Music Association Awards? The point is, it’s been many, many years. It’s now a tradition. And as I’ve said over the years, I enjoy watching them, I enjoy their chemistry. I especially enjoy that they keep saying yes, even though, career-wise, it’s not like they have to. Carrie, especially, doesn’t have to. But they show up, year after year, and they work. Hosting a major awards show is no joke. The CMAs are probably more intimate, even more insidery, than the Oscars or the Emmys, but it doesn’t mean there isn’t a lot of work that goes into the job, between the planning and the writing and the rehearsing and the live elements over four hours, when you prepare to be ready for the unexpected but you can never know what you can’t expect.

Was it unexpected thatCarriewon Female Vocalist of the Year? It has been a f-cking YEAR. Almost exactly a year ago is when she had that accident at home, sustaining a broken wrist and scarring her face, requiring stitches and reconstruction. She also had a miscarriage, her third in two years, at the beginning of this year. On the upside, she’s pregnant now and revealed last night, on stage, during a bit with Brad, that she and husband Mike Fisher are having another boy.

So it was a very good night and hopefully a very good end to what’s been a challenging year. And, amazingly, I didn’t hate any of her outfits last night. I mean, I didn’t love them, let’s not get carried away, but none of them were as WTF as what we’ve seen from her in years past.
