The Oscars took my advice on one of my past pet peeves of the show. There weren’t endless montages featuring movies that the show didn’t recognize. It’s annoying when the Academy snubs great films for ones likeGreen Bookbut then will cycle through the good ones in a fleeting montage. In the one montage they did include (aside from the In Memoriam), I swear I saw a glimpse ofThe Hate U Give. I’m not saying thatThe Hate U Givedeserved to win Oscars, but it sure warranted more acclaim than it got.

I like to think that the people who matter know this, and that’s who decided to include Amandla Stenberg as a presenter. I thank whoever’s decision this was because they gave me my Best Dressed of the night.

Amandla Stenberg is good at red carpets. She usually delivers a solid look but this is A LEWK. Let’s start with the hair because it is the pièce de résistance. I’ve never used that phrase in my life, but this hair warrants it. This hair is a masterpiece. As I guessed, it is a Vernon Francois creation. He’s best known for Lupita Nyong’o’sepic 2016 Met Gala hairand so many more natural hairstyles on all our faves. Amandla showed him some love on IG:

TWO HOURS. I don’t think I’ve ever been in and out of a Black hair salon in two hours. Vernon is a prompt genius. This hair is exquisite. Her edges are perfectly laid and I’m jealous because the day I get my edges to look like this is, well, never. Her beauty and subtle Forevermark gold jewelry are also impeccable. I don’t think she’s ever looked better.

As for the Miu Miu gown, it’s spectacularly Roaring Twenties with a 2019 twist. It’s sexy, sophisticated, soft with a slight edge. Duana says it’s similar to the dress she got married in and now I want to get married just so I can wear this dress.
